Bible Baptist Church of Galway

/

A website and branding refresh to help a small town historic church enter the digital era.

Responsive Website

The Bible Baptist Church of Galway is a small church in the rural community of Galway, NY. I worked with them on a branding refresh and a new website to help them communicate their values and better utilize their online presence.

Brief

A website redesign to help convert more 1st time attendees into long-term attendees. The goal was to lean into the key strengths of the church, clearly communicate its beliefs/values, and demonstrate that the church is active with an passionate and friendly community.

Pain Points

Finding a new church is intimidating—lets use this platform to help people feel more at ease.

A small rural church isn’t for everyone, so lets target the right people through honesty and setting realistic expectations.

Limited staff/volunteers, directly affecting how to present and manage content like events/sermons.

Outcomes

After the website launch, the church saw several new faces—all mentioning that they discovered the church through the new website.

The website was built and designed to be low-maintenance and flexible. This became valuable during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the pastor started recording his sermons for people to watch from the safety of their home. The website was used to share this content, giving the immunocompromised access and the pastor a new platform that he'd never utilized this way before.

Logo Design

The original church of The Bible Baptist Church of Galway was built in 1789 and is still used today. Using the building in the logo felt right, as it shows both the historical significance of the architecture and a sense of scale. Regarding the typefaces, I chose a grounding serif font for “Bible Baptist”-- the foundation of the church, and a friendly sans serif for the remainder of the name.
