A thoughtful box design for the product:
The design has to stand out clearly on a shelf while not feeling one-off—it needs to stay true to the rest of the brand. With the ‘dedicated angler’ being an established customer-base, it was important to appeal to this demographic in the design and copy. The box had to clearly display the product, and a window needed to be planned so the customer could feel the soft fabric. Product features needed to be extremely visible, as they are what differentiates the product from other brands.
Product Imagery: The use of on-model photography was discouraged, so I needed to illustrate both styles based off of a prototype on a mannequin. This led to challenges as the product was still in development, so each product update required revisions to the illustration.
Product Features: These needed to be on the cover, spine, and back of the box. To keep the design from feeling repetitive, the spine used the brand icons, the back included them with extra copy to tell more of a product story, and the front only had them as a text list.
Sizing sticker: As a measure to cut down on costs/overhead, the sizing was to be printed on a sticker applied to the front and the top of the boxes.
This product unfortunately never made it to market, but I strongly believe this packaging achieved what it set out to do.
